Dave Grohl quebra o silêncio sobre saída de Josh Freese do Foo Fighters
Foo Fighters parted ways with Josh Freese in May 2025, and nine months later frontman Dave Grohl has finally offered an explanation for the drummer’s firing . In a new interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe , Grohl opened up about the decision to let Freese for the first time, while also talking about the difficulty of continuing the band following the passing of Taylor Hawkins in 2022. “We had Taylor Hawkins as our drummer for 25 years and, beyond being an amazing drummer, he was this incredible spirit,” began Grohl. “He was this incredible human being and he was our brother. He was our best friend. So, continuing after Taylor was really complicated, not just for us, but for any drummer that was going to come in to, like, fill his shoes.” Grohl continued, “With Josh Freese, Josh is a consummate professional. He has a storied career of playing with everyone from Michael Buble to The Offspring, he’s had thousands of studio recordings. So he came in, we went out on tour, and we had such a blast. We had a great time. It was like a year-and-a-half of touring, the shows were great and we had a lot of fun. And, the last show that we did, I think it was in September 2024, we did our last show, and all stepped away from the band.” The frontman then explained that while the band had been on break, they eventually came to the decision to let Freese go: “In those six or seven months, as a band, we talked about what to do next, a new direction, and thought, ‘Okay, let’s call Josh and let him know that we are going to move on with a different drummer.’” Grohl also made it clear that it was a band decision, and that they notified Freese as a group. “We called, as a band, all of us called, it wasn’t just me. Basically, we called Josh, and were like, ‘Hey man, that was awesome. That was such a blast, thank you so much, but we are going to move on and find another drummer.’” The singer-guitarist then pointed to something Freese said himself as an explanation for the band parting ways with him, saying, “After that, we didn’t make a press release, tweet anything or do interviews. We didn’t say anything. Since then, there’s been a lot of talk about it, but I think Josh said it best when he said that he didn’t feel our music really resonated with him, and that’s really important.” Foo Fighters replaced Freese with Ilan Rubin, who had been in Nine Inch Nails. Ironically, Freese rejoined NIN, replacing Rubin in what essentially turned out to be a drummer swap . On Thursday, Foo Fighters announced their 12th album, Your Favorite Toy , set for release on April 24th, along with releasing the title track. Foo Fighters will support the album with a 2026 tour that includes a summer North American leg with Queens of the Stone Age kicking off in August. Pick up tickets here .
